A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE MUSEUM OF MILITARY HISTORY

The Museum of Military History, one of the most important history museums in the world, is situated right in the centre of the Arsenal. The Military History Museum was built according to plans of Ludwig Foerster and Theophil Hansen from 1850 to 1856 and was thus the first Viennese museum. The styles of this town’s oldest historic building range from Byzantine, Hispano-Moorish to Neo-Gothic. In five major sections the museum shows the history of the Habsburg empire from the end of the 16th century until 1918 and Austria’s fate after the dissolution of the monarchy up to the year 1945.

Second Evening

Evening Dinner at the „Heurigen“

The program for the second evening will be a dinner in a traditional wine-restaurant called „Heuriger“.
Located in the heart of Neustift am Walde between vineyards and the Vienna Woods Ernst and Gerti Huber’s Winery with its cosy parlours and romantic patio has been a popular wine tavern for almost 30 years. The architect for the house was Professor Walter von Hoesslin, the stage designer of the Vienna Opera House. Mrs Huber herself took over the interior design: the rustic atmosphere is always cosy no matter where you are: the „Pressstüberl“, the „Schmiede“, the „Stadl“, the „Keller“ or the „Dachböden“

The best way to reach the „Heurigen“-restaurant is by public transport. There is a bus line 35A into the direction of „Salmannsdorf/Neustift“ and has its stop, called „Neustift am Walde“, in front of the restaurant. For those who are not so familiar with the transport system in Vienna we will organize a meeting point and will lead you there.
