Publisher, Hydro Group

Marla Barnes is the business leader of PennWell’s Hydro and Water Groups.

The Hydro Group consists of two magazines: Hydro Review and HRW-Hydro Review Worldwide magazines; several online resources, including the website www.hydroreview.com and the Hydro Review mobile app; and the HydroVision International Conference and Exhibition. The Water Group consists of three magazines: WaterWorld; Industrial WaterWorld; and Water and Wastewater International; and several online resources including the website www.WaterWorld.com.

Marla previously served as chief editor of the hydropower publications and events formerly owned by H

CI Publications. These products were acquired by PennWell in 2008. She has more than 25 years of experience as an editor and conference organizer in the worldwide hydroelectric power industry. In addition to her role as publisher and business leader, she also directs the Hydro Group’s editorial and conference content.

Marla has taken a leadership position in establishing PennWell’s business in Brasil and the establishment of PennWell do Brasil. In 2013, Marla was named PennWell Corporation’s Most Valuable Publisher.

Marla’s membership in professional organizations includes the U.S. Society on Dams and the U.S. National Hydropower Association. She is an honorary member of the International Commission on Large Dams, the world’s preeminent dam-building organizations.

Marla has served in other professional positions such as television producer and director of agricultural communications, as well as home economics editor of agricultural communications for Oklahoma State University.
