Université Laval, LAMH – Laboratoire de machines hydrauliques, CANADA

Prof. Claire Deschênes graduated from Laval University (Canada) in Mechanical Engineering in 1977. She obtained a Ph.D. from the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble in France in 1990. Hired as the first woman professor in engineering at the Faculty of sciences and engineering of Laval University in 1989, she founded the Hydraulic Machine Laboratory (LAMH), which is now internationally recognized for its research on hydraulic turbines. In 2007, Claire Deschênes established the Consortium in hydraulic machines, a group of industries and academics conducting research on hydraulic turbines. On the 17th of February 2015, the Consortium received the prestigious National Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Synergy Award for Innovation – Two Industries or More. This award recognizes collaborations that are a model of effective partnership between industry and universities or colleges.
