My main area of research is numerical simulation of the turbulent flow in water turbines, in which I have been working since 1997. I have developed an in-house CFD code for that purpose, but have since 2005 switched to the use and development of OpenFOAM/FOAM-extend and become highly involved in that community. We have focused on turbulent swirling flows, vortex breakdown, vortex ropes, active flow control, cavitation, rotor-stator interaction, system transients, turbulence modeling etc. in both academic cases and water turbine geometries. We do numerical and experimental investigations of the air-cooling of hydropower electric generators. I am also involved in projects on tidal current electric energy production, welding, fiber flow, flow in flow meters, heat transfer at free surfaces, and bio-mechanics (flow-induced forces in stent grafts, and flow in the neck during whiplash motion).
